Three iconic routes in NYC

Image
Manhattan lights from the Brooklyn Bridge I recently spent three days in New York City for work, where I did some research on the best routes around Manhattan and picked a different one each day. Of course, nothing ever goes exactly as planned, so each one had a few detours and unexpected changes. But none lacked for stunning scenery and a feeling of adventure.

17 miles of ups and downs

After 11 days of mostly snowboarding in Austria I was back home less than 24 hours and Susan I went on a 15 mile run (on Monday). 15 miles is normally not much for us, but after not running for almost 2 weeks it felt hard. Well instead of taking it easy durning the week, I kept running and doing heavy weight workouts. Saturday comes around and we decided to do 20 miles. Still being some what jet lagged I fell asleep at 8pm on Friday night without coming up with a route.  Well Saturday morning at 4am.... j et lagged and can't sleep? Create a new route. I decided to create a route that zig zagged between Leif and Wildwood to keep things interesting, I ended up a ~17 mile route instead of 20. I figured we could add on if we wanted. I was glad the route was only 17 miles, we were both feeling the ~45 mile week on our legs. Even Cedar was slowing down the last few miles, which never happens. Despite our tired legs, the route is pretty fun with all the ups and downs.  Route:

10-4, buddy

I needed a short run because I had a guest in town. Ann wanted a bit longer. So I created this ~10 mile loop with a ~5 mile add-on. It's nice to have options!
