Girls Gone San Francisco

Yay Stinson This originally was going to be a much longer post, but we have gotten so far behind on blogging that this is more of a tl;dr (too long didn't read) post.  In early April I had a work trip to San Francisco that kept me in the city over the weekend, so Susan decided to fly down for a running weekend. I didn't spend a lot of time planning a route, I pinged a running friend of ours, Guf who lives in San Francisco and asked for suggestions on a 30 mile route in the Marin Headlands. The night before our run he sent us a 30 mile Strava route, which we decided to use.  Marin Headlands The weather was absolutely perfect for running, sunny and in the 70s. Though it felt pretty warm to us, since it was still winter like weather in Portland. We didn't think to bring sunscreen and we both ended up with some nasty sun burns.  Susan making her way down Dipsea... what goes down must go up??? We roughly followed Guf's route but g...

Running while on the road

The last few weeks I have been traveling more than normal for work. I was in San Francisco on 2 different occasions, once by the airport and the other time downtown. When I found out my conference was at a airport hotel I had resided to the fact that I was going to be running on a treadmill. Which is almost enough to make me not want to run, but 4 days without working out would make me very cranky which my co-workers would not appreciate. When I arrived at the airport hotel it was dark so I had no idea of my surroundings, even though I fly into SFO several times a year, but I never stay at the airport. I was pleasantly surprised when the guy at the front desk told me there was a biking and running path behind the hotel that "went for miles". I was even more surprised ...

Nike Women's Half Marathon

finisher's necklace Months ago I was offered a free entry to the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco , so of course I took it. My ego wouldn't let me sign-up for the half, even though I never thought I would run another road marathon. I had every intention on running the full marathon, I mean I had been training for a marathon after all. But after getting to San Francisco and seeing all the crowds at the expo center I started to freak out a bit, I think I have gotten a bit spoiled by trail races where there are a few hundred runners not 30,000+. Then I decided that I would just run the half and enjoy my time hanging out with my sister and friends in San Francisco.  start line The race started super early at 6:30am, luckily I was staying at the hotel right across the street from the start. I got to the start line a few minutes before race started, it was cold, the music was pounding and I was surrounded by 30,000 other women (and a few men) who had trained...
