Searching for Savory: Part 4

I subscribe to a monthly box of vegan snacks, which is how I first tried these "nori wrapped energy sticks." There's a light crispiness to the seaweed wrapping, and the sunflower seed filling gives them a substantial chew. I had never eaten anything quite like it, and I immediately looked for where to buy more.

I have the POWER (wraps)!
I ordered two of each flavor from the maker's website, and enjoyed them all. I discovered that my local vegan grocery store carries them. Then I don't know if I got tired of them or I just got a bad batch, but suddenly they didn't taste good to me anymore.

A couple of years passed, and I decided to try them again for this experiment, specifically for running.

I took the Italian flavor with me on a 24 1/2 mile run. They're hearty enough that I ate one halfway through, and had the other on my drive home.

The flavor is subtle-- salty, but not overly so. I can't really taste anything Italian about the seasonings, but all of the flavors do taste distinct.  The texture is great for running-- there's some snap when you take a bite, but it's not dry like chips, which can stick in my mouth when I'm dehydrated.

I will definitely buy more Power Wraps for long runs. And unlike my other favorite savory running fuel so far, Clif Pizza Margherita, I would eat these as a snack even while not-running.
