Girls Gone Texas -- A weekend in Austin

Image
Courtney and I spent last weekend in Austin and after reading a lot of how to spend a weekend in Austin guides, we thought we'd share how we spent a weekend in January in Austin. Overall we had a wonderful time, I think our only regret was not buy tickets to the show we wanted to go to before hand, but we ended up a cool bar instead.  Friday night Beers at Craft Pride -  a nice surprise that it was fairly chilled. They only carry beers from Texas, so it’s a good place to go if you want to sample a lot of local beers. They also have a big patio for live music and a pizza truck. Courtney after a few beers  Tacos at a Sirena Taco Truck on Rainey Street - pretty good and cheap. Sleeping: The W Hotel is in a central spot in downtown, lots of good places within walking distance. When I found out at the end of December that I would be traveling to Hong Kong for work the first week of January I immediately Googled "Trail Races Hong Kong January". I found a trail series called King of the Hills , with a 1/2 and full marathon on Lantau island the weekend before I needed to be in Hong Kong. I signed up for the full marathon right away. I was scheduled to arrive in Hong Kong the Thursday before the race, the race was on Sunday, but I felt like I was getting a cold and rescheduled my flight, which meant arriving the night before the race. What kind of crazy person flies 20+ hours to run a race they don't know much about the next day? Well I am that crazy person, but I did email the RD to see if I could change to the 1/2 marathon instead, luckily they let me. stone steps going uphill for 2.5 miles and 2500 feet of gain My co-worker Eric who was in Hong Kong already and who speaks Cantonese decided to meet me Sunday morning

Cedar loves to be dressed up 2018 was the year of the dog according to the Chinese zodiac . If you have been following our blog you know that 2018 was definitely the year of the dog here, or more specifically the year of Cedar Sunbeam .   first run of 2019 Cedar has been the highlight of our running year. I adopted him in March from the Oregon Humane Society, he was a wild child. Since then he has run trails around Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, Mt. Jefferson and ran all 30 miles of Wildwood with us. He has been to the beach and is currently in love with the snow. Cedar has turned into a total dirtbag runner, he would live in our Sprinter Van if we let him, he licks our beer taps clean after we pour beer.  We are looking forward to many more running adventures in 2019 with him.  2018 was also the year that we had to say goodbye to Oscar my first dog crush. Oscar was my good friend Karrla's dog who we took on a lot of backpacking and mountain biking adventures. Once Susa
