22 miles for Mother's Day

Image
Stretching before the run Susan wanted to start Mother's Day off with a run so Cedar and I gave her a new 22 mile route for Mother's Day. We wanted to make it a memorable route so we made sure to give her a nice climb all the way up Saltzman, which actually was quite pleasant since it was at the beginning of the route.  The nice thing about running on Mother's Day is there isn't a lot of people out, since most people are probably having brunch celebrating, but us trail runners are a different breed.  After our nice long run, I got to go celebrate Mother's Day with my 2 moms. Moms are the best! The top of Firelane 1 We are officially training for the  Waldo 100k in August, the last 100k we finished was Miwok in 2015. We have had a few DNFs since then and I feel like my mental toughness isn't where it use to be, so decided it is time to get a coach again. We trained with Wille from Wyeast Wolfpack  for Miwok and had good success, this time I decided to ask Yassine if he had availability for another client and luckily he did.  You can lead a dog to water For my long run this week Yassine had me doing 20 miles with 3000 - 4000 feet of elevation gain. We have plenty of 20 mile runs on the blog but we never record the elevation gain, I could search Strava but I decided it would be more of a pain in the ass than it was worth. So I decided to create a new route.  I knew going up to Pittock would give me at least 1000 feet of gain. I thought about doing all of Saltzman, but it was too far from Pittock for the 20 miles we were looking for. I picked Firelane

Everyone's [least] favorite, BPA Road Ann picked our weekend long run of 22 miles: New Year, New Route  from our blog. The problem is that I was the one looking at the directions. I got ahead of where we were, and sent us down Firelane 9 early, chunking all of the brutal climbs of this route into the first half.
